The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles launched the LAJTI in 2015 with the mission of cultivating a vibrant, thriving community of Jewish teens in Los Angeles. We’ve since discovered the secret to sustaining it is to offer seemingly endless ways for teens to meet each other, share meaningful experiences, and make lasting friendships.

Our mission is a 360° community-wide approach to engage teens in Jewish life in Los Angeles. That means, we’re here every step of the way.

LAJTI supports and connects with all the organizations in LA that offer innovative Jewish teen programming … and lucky for LA teens, there’s a lot to choose from.

We make sure all the programs are easy to access and offer several financial aid options – making them easy to find and afford.

We help teens and parents discover valuable internships, service projects, summer camps, volunteering, social events, entrepreneurial development programs, Jewish learning opportunities, travel programs, and even workshops for parents!

The memories teens make today will shape their future for years to come, which is why we create

plenty of space for them to explore their interests while getting to know the Jewish community. We believe that providing Jewish teens with exciting opportunities to meet each other, and share

meaningful experiences, will help them build healthy and happy lives.

The LAJTI Teen Program Accelerator works to elevate and strengthen organizations that are doing the important work of creating space for teens to engage Jewishly in Los Angeles.

In partnership with UpStart, a non-profit that works to advance ideas that contribute to Jewish life, the Accelerator is a two-year program that brings together Jewish teen engagement professionals from diverse organizations, and offers them financial support, specialized coaching and opportunities for unique collaborations.

It supports everything from organizations that empower individuals with special needs like ETTA and Culinary Kids Academy, to youth groups like BBYO that connect Jewish teens from all around the world.

The Julie Beren Platt Teen Innovation Awards give Jewish teens in LA the chance to make their dream projects a reality. Teens can receive prizes up to $1,500 for everything from social justice initiatives to creative community projects. Winners are picked by their peers, and then mentored by professionals in the community to help make their ideas a reality. Past winners include EmBody Love, an interactive workshop for teenage girls about self-love, and Worst First Kiss Productions, a socially conscious theater company run by teens, for teens.

We are inspired and humbled by the passionate teens in our community, and their determination to make an impact. These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable Jewish teens in LA, and the big ideas they bring to life.

The Community Internship Program is an incredible (if we do say so ourselves!) summer opportunity for teens. They gain valuable skills, explore their interests, connect with the community – and collect a paycheck!

Interns are paired with full-time internship positions with Jewish non-profit organizations throughout Los Angeles. They work in an office setting Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Then every Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm, they all come together to hone professional skills—like communications or public speaking—and participate in team-building activities, Jewish learning, and self-reflection.

The program culminates in a celebration and formal commencement with family, friends, representatives from the non-profits where they served and Jewish community leaders.

LAJTI helps the community thrive by supporting healthy family dynamics, and cultivating new points of connection for Jewish teens. We provide easy access to program information, helpful resources, and financial aid.

We’re doing whatever it takes to make sure parents, teens, educators and organizations have everything they need to flourish in the LA Jewish community.

Today’s teens are dealing with a unique set of serious challenges in a quickly changing world.  That’s why we’ve made it a priority to support their social, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing. We offer educational resources and facilitate workshops for teens, parents, and educators about mental health, parent-teen communication, and other not-so-easy to navigate topics.

With countless opportunities to choose from, like social events, internships, unforgettable summer teen programs and more, the LAJTI website is where it all comes together. You can search for the type of program you’re interested in.  And you’re sure to discover new ones you never knew existed. Created for teens and parents alike, if it’s for Jewish teens in LA, you’ll find it here on the LAJTI website.

In partnership with the Builders of Jewish Education (BJE), The Jake and Janet Farber Teen Experiential Educator Network works to provide Jewish teen educators in LA with valuable and diverse professional development opportunities.  As a collaborative, supportive network, it offers year-long mentorships, subsidized academic courses for building core skills, and monthly forums featuring notable speakers on essential topics.
